I did it. I joined Pinterest. Part of me is an elderly person that pretends to not understand the internet, thus my reasoning for joining the party so late - I am only 29,  and the other part of me sees Pinterest as another site to procrastinate on while gathering inspiration. And my number one reason is to give this blog some meat to the bones. Some visuals to blow the horn of art, design, creativity and to bring back the handwritten notes and letters.

So without further ado, please welcome Color Tuesdays, Inspiration Wednesdays and Envy Thursdays.

big dogs need love too

One of my on the side freelance clients is Big Barkan online community where you can discuss issues, find products, review services, find your new best friend and everything else big dog. I myself have an old english sheepdog that still thinks she only weights ten pounds. This weekend, July 21, Big Bark will have a table at the Windy City Pet Expo in Chicago. The expo is for all things pets and your pet is welcome to go too. So if you are in the Chicago area, love animals, are in need of a free admission event to take the kids to, stop by the Big Bark booth and tell them Sparkmymind Designs sent you.

six years and going strong

Yesterday the husband and I actually remembered our wedding anniversary! We both have a terrible time remembering because we had to pick a date of convenience rather than a special one like our first date (whenever that was). But it was amazing. Simple, small and to the point. We were married in the Uinta Mountains, Wyoming where I grew up. We pulled up to a spot overlooking a creek, tied white balloons in the trees and fifteen minutes later we were husband and wife.

Everything about our wedding was DIY. I made my bouquet and the boutonnieres out of french paper roses, the bridesmaids flowers were dried flower bouquets and I hand cut, glued and stamped every invitation. My very talented sister-in-law was our photographer and a family friend the officiant. For our reception we rented the local American Legion Hall, where I place and worked in as a child, and roasted a pig for everyone to enjoy. Our cake was made by a family friend and was amazing.

I have to admit I hated every minute planning it. Which is funny because now I design wedding invitations and am on wedding blogs everyday. But I guess it is always more stressful when it is your own.

go wild western style

I was very excited this morning to find that my western wedding invitation set had been included in a treasury on etsy. This design was a mash of another design I had done for a friends wedding and my sisters western wedding request (still in progress). The treasury list reminds me of Urban Cowboy in which my father could have totally played Travolta's double minus the chin dimple. So with that image in mind please go and check it out here. Also check out Yael Scharabys, the creator of the treasury, shop which is full of great modern fashions.
